Himachal to Set Up 80 E-Charging Stations; NABARD Approves ₹128 Crore Loan
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has revised its plan to establish electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the state. Originally, 53 e-charging stations were proposed, but now the number has been increased to 80 to cover a wider area, including both urban and rural regions.
A revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted to the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), which has approved a loan of ₹128 crore for the project. The first installment of ₹35 crore has already been released. NABARD will fund 90% of the project cost, while the remaining 10% will be borne by the state government.
HRTC Managing Director Nipun Jindal stated that the goal is to provide wider access to EV infrastructure considering the geographical diversity of the state. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push to promote electric vehicles and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
With increasing purchases of electric buses and vehicles, the state is actively working to build the necessary charging infrastructure. The expansion of charging stations is expected to encourage more people to adopt EVs and ensure convenient access to charging facilities.
