Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu States: Rational Reorganization of Officers' Workforce Needed in HRTC

CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu Emphasizes Rationalization in HRTC and Support for Youth Vehicle Scheme

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu stated that there is a need to rationalize the large number of officers in the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC). He added that strict decisions will be taken to ensure timely pension payments by HRTC. The government is providing financial aid of ₹720 crore to cover HRTC’s losses.

Addressing the pensioners' strike, Sukhu said the government allocates approximately ₹750 crore annually to HRTC, while the income from bus operations is around ₹70 crore. The government is also compensating for losses due to service suspension during the pandemic.

Sukhu highlighted that HRTC operates 3,000 buses requiring drivers, conductors, and inspectors, but there is an excess number of officers that need rationalization. He acknowledged that the 50% subsidy given to women passengers causes some losses but stressed its social importance.

Further, the Chief Minister mentioned that 80 vehicles have been provided to unemployed youth with a 50% subsidy. Buyers need to pay only 10% margin money, and monthly rent is guaranteed. The government will maintain these vehicles for four years, extendable by three more years.

Finally, responding to Opposition Leader Jairam Thakur’s claim, Sukhu clarified that he addressed members of the European Union at the House of Lords in London, countering Thakur’s statement that he did not speak there.
