Manimahesh Yatra Turns Tragic: 16 Dead, 5,000 Pilgrims Stranded; Authorities Accelerate Rescue

During the Manimahesh Yatra from Krishna Janmashtami to Radhashtami, 16 pilgrims have lost their lives. Deputy Commissioner Chamba, Mukesh Repswal, informed that due to heavy rainfall, around 15,000 pilgrims were stranded at various locations. Out of these, approximately 10,000 have been safely evacuated, while around 5,000 remain stranded.

Nearly 500 personnel from NDRF, SDRF, police, home guards, and local shopkeepers are engaged in rescue and relief operations at places like Gaurikund and Dhansho. The administration has ordered stranded pilgrims to return by Monday and Tuesday.

On Sunday, 3,500 pilgrims stranded in Bharmaur were evacuated and sent towards Pathankot, Kangra, and other places in 26 HRTC buses and other vehicles. The district administration is facilitating pilgrims to walk from Bharmaur to Janghi, from where free bus services and other vehicles are available.

The Kullu-Manali National Highway has been closed for six days, though the route for large vehicles via Vamtat to Manali has been reopened, providing some relief.

The Deputy Commissioner has warned against spreading rumors on social media and stated that FIRs may be filed against those responsible.
