Vimal Negi Death Case: Suspended ASI Pankaj Sharma Presented Before High Court, Security Cover Removed
In a key development in the Vimal Negi death case, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed the removal of the security detail assigned to suspended ASI Pankaj Sharma. The order came in response to a petition filed by Sharma’s wife, challenging the state government’s alleged illegal detention and surveillance orders against her husband.
The petitioner urged the court to ensure her husband's immediate release and requested the revocation of all surveillance directives issued against him. It was brought to the court’s attention that Sharma was being forcibly kept at Police Guest House, Kaithu (Set No. 1) and was not allowed to stay in his allotted government accommodation at Bharari, Shimla.
Taking cognizance of the gravity of the matter, the division bench led by Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Ranjan Sharma instructed the state government to present suspended ASI Pankaj Sharma before the court by 2:00 PM. In compliance with the court’s directive, Sharma was subsequently produced before the bench.
After hearing both the state and the CBI, the court directed the state government to file a reply to the petition and ordered the immediate withdrawal of all security placed on ASI Pankaj Sharma.
