NIRF 2025 Rankings: IIT Mandi and Nauni University Shine, Palampur Agriculture University Slips

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has once again raised the bar by showcasing excellence in research, infrastructure, consultancy, and outreach. In the NIRF 2025 rankings, IIT Mandi secured the 58th position overall and 26th in the engineering category — a result of consistent efforts over the last three years.
The institute has witnessed a surge in research projects, UG trainee registrations, and infrastructure development. Registrar Dr. K.S. Pandey credited the achievement to the leadership of Director Prof. Laxmidhar Behera.

Engineering Ranking Trend:
- 2025 – 26 (Score: 62.08)

In addition, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni earned a place in three categories of NIRF 2025. It ranked 12th among agriculture, forestry, and veterinary universities and 20th in agriculture and allied sectors nationwide. Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel stated that these rankings reflect the university’s commitment to quality education and research.
On the downside, Palampur Agriculture University saw a significant drop in rankings, falling from 19th to 29th place. Staff shortage, reduced number of projects, and budget issues have been cited as key reasons for the decline. Delays in salary disbursement and internal protests have also affected the university’s performance.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, secured the 34th position in the law category. Vice Chancellor Prof. Preeti Saxena expressed pride in the university's growing national presence.
