Himachal Pradesh: Deputy CM says he is not interested in becoming state president, has informed party high command

Himachal Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri Declines State Congress President Post Citing Family Responsibilities

During a press conference in Mandi, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri clarified that he is not interested in becoming the President of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee. He revealed that although the party high command had offered him the position, he declined due to personal family circumstances. Agnihotri said that after the demise of his wife, his priority is to take care of his daughter and family, making it impossible for him to take on such responsibilities at this time.

He also criticized the previous BJP government, stating that rest houses worth ₹120 crore were constructed using funds from the Jal Jeevan Mission, which the central government is now withholding. The center argues that the funds were meant only for water supply, not for building rest houses. The state government, however, contends that these constructions took place during the previous BJP regime and opposes the fund cuts.

Additionally, Agnihotri announced that the government has ordered the waiver of pending water bills in urban areas, with similar relief currently extended to rural areas. The central government has tasked local panchayats with billing and collection responsibilities, but funding for this has been stopped. The state government is now working to implement this plan effectively.
