Chief Minister Sukhu Launches Tribal Festival in Lahaul-Spiti with a 'Zero Waste' Theme
Shimla, August 14: On Thursday, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu virtually inaugurated the Tribal Festival held at Kelong in Lahaul-Spiti district from Shimla. The festival will continue until August 16. The CM extended his best wishes to the people of the state and said the event will play a significant role in environmental protection. This is the first-ever festival in the state organized under the 'Zero Waste' theme.
Several innovative initiatives have been undertaken during the festival to promote environmental conservation. The CM appreciated the unique art and culture of Lahaul-Spiti and said the festival will offer tourists a chance to learn more about the region’s rich heritage. He called the festival a symbol of commitment to heritage preservation.
Highlighting challenges posed by climate change, the CM noted that Lahaul-Spiti is also affected, with abnormal rainfall raising concerns. The government is actively working to provide relief during disasters. A team of scientists, with central government support, is studying cloudburst events in detail.
Sukhu praised Lahaul-Spiti as a model district for women empowerment and assured promotion of traditional products under the 'Him-Era' brand. He also laid the foundation stone for five new bridges worth ₹36.41 crore under PMGSY Phase-3 in Udaipur subdivision.
MLA Anuradha Rana welcomed the CM and briefed him about the developmental needs and damages caused by heavy rainfall in the district. Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana, and other senior officials participated virtually in the event.
