Additionally, Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College in Mandi have been approved for cancer care and research.

This initiative aims to provide people of Himachal Pradesh with accessible and quality cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research facilities closer to their homes.

Responding to a query raised by Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sikander Kumar regarding the establishment of a cancer research center and the status of early detection facilities in the state, the minister stated that the central government is implementing a national plan to strengthen specialized cancer care centers across India.

Under this plan, financial assistance of up to ₹120 crore is provided for State Cancer Institutes and up to ₹45 crore for Tertiary Cancer Care Centers.

The minister also informed that Himachal currently operates 12 district-level NCD (Non-Communicable Disease) clinics, 108 Community Health Center-level NCD clinics, and 12 District Cancer Care Centers. Furthermore, under the National Health Mission, regular screening for non-communicable diseases, including cancer, is being conducted for individuals above 30 years of age.
