Himachal: CID Officer Arrested in Connection with Sandeep Shah's Chitta Smuggling Gang

CID Employee Arrested in Connection with Inter-State Drug Trafficking Network Led by Sandeep Shah

Shimla, August 25: Shimla Police has arrested a CID employee in connection with the inter-state "chitta" (synthetic heroin) trafficking case linked to notorious drug kingpin Sandeep Shah. The accused has been identified as Rajat, currently serving in Shimla. He had previously worked with the district police.

According to police sources, suspicious transactions were found in the accused’s bank accounts during the investigation, leading to his arrest. He is currently being interrogated to determine the extent of his involvement in the network.

The state CID has also launched a parallel investigation into the matter. So far, police have arrested 69 individuals in this case, including ringleader Sandeep Shah, and charge sheets have been filed against 59 of them.

Investigations have revealed that Sandeep Shah ran the drug trafficking operation from Kolkata while coordinating the logistics from Delhi.  He involved unemployed and drug-addicted youth to carry out drug distribution across Himachal Pradesh. Large consignments of chitta were first transported to Shimla, then hidden in small quantities at various locations.

Shah would receive payments online and then send videos and precise locations to buyers to collect the drugs. A software engineer by profession, he used the dark web and virtual numbers to conceal his identity while running the illegal business for years.

SSP Shimla, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, stated, "The police crackdown on drugs is ongoing and will continue with full force."
