Himachal Proposes Five Key Roads for Inclusion in PM Gati Shakti Portal, Seeks Central Funding
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh informed the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Friday that the state government has submitted a proposal to the Central Government to include five major roads under the PM Gati Shakti portal. The proposed roads are:
- Jwalamukhi–Dehra–Jwali–Raja Ka Talab–Jasur
- Kalur–Dhaneta–Barsar–Barthin–Bachhal
- Salapar–Harnora–Kasol–Tattapani–Sunni–Luhri
- Dramman–Singhuta–Chuwari–Jot–Chamba
- Shimla–Nalagarh–Knauli
He stated that these roads are of strategic, tourism, and industrial importance and financial assistance has been requested from the Centre. The government also plans to include Chaila–Neripul–Ochghat and Rohru–Kotkhai–Chopal–Solan roads in future proposals.
Under the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), 1500 kilometers of new roads will be constructed in the state to improve connectivity in remote regions.
Bipartisan Support and Opposition Concerns
Singh thanked the Central Government for allocating ₹3,960 crore over the last three years for road development and upgradation in Himachal. Opposition members showed their support by striking their desks. Singh responded, emphasizing that this is taxpayers' money and the state government has successfully brought it for the benefit of Himachal.
Earlier, Paccad MLA Reena Kashyap raised the issue of deteriorating road conditions in her constituency. She pointed out that roads like Solan–Rajgarh–Meenas, Renuka–Shillai, and Paccad–Rohru–Kotkhai–Chopal–Solan are in poor condition, causing losses to apple growers and leading to 13 accidents in the past 15 days. She demanded road widening, repair, and DPR preparation.
