Himachal Pradesh High Court Issues Notice to Government and Others Over Land Rights in Powari Village, Kinnaur
The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the government and other parties regarding the protection of rights of residents of Powari village, affected by the Shaungtong project in Kinnaur district. The court, hearing a petition filed by senior advocates, has decided to consider an interim stay in the case until the next hearing.
The petitioners have demanded fair compensation for additional land of Gram Panchayat Powari, which has been acquired by the company. The Ministry of the Government of India has also emphasized that under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006, the traditional rights of the villagers must be protected. The act mandates obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned Gram Panchayat before any approval.
Presiding Judge Ajay Mohan Goyal has directed all respondents to submit their replies. The next hearing is scheduled for September 15.
