Himachal’s Development Takes Flight: Ropeways, Railways, Tourism, and Infrastructure Projects to Boost Growth
Himachal Pradesh is rapidly transforming with major infrastructure and tourism projects aimed at boosting development, connectivity, and economic growth.
One of the most ambitious projects is the 38 km ropeway from Parwanoo to Shimla, set to become India's longest and the world’s second-longest ropeway. Constructed in 8 phases at a cost of ₹6,800 crore under the PPP model, it will reduce travel time from 3.5 hours to just 2 hours. The ropeway will pass through 11 key stations and offer a scenic and efficient travel alternative.
Another advanced ropeway of 13.79 km from Taradevi to Shimla is also under development. With 15 stations and a travel time of just 12–15 minutes, it aims to ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution.
Bilaspur is emerging as a tourism hub with the Bhanupli-Bilaspur-Bairi broad-gauge railway, water activities in Gobind Sagar Lake, a water metro service, and AIIMS providing quality healthcare. The ongoing railway project includes 20 tunnels and 69 massive pillars across the lake, expected to complete by 2027.
In Rampur and Kinnaur, modern vegetable markets and a cold storage facility with a capacity of 1.25 lakh apple crates are under construction to support apple farmers. Solan is witnessing the development of a Medical Device Park and a new Chandigarh-Baddi rail line, which will benefit Asia’s largest pharma hub.
Sirmaur is seeing improved connectivity with projects like a new heliport near Nahan, the Renuka Ji dam supplying drinking water to Delhi and power to Himachal, and the development of four-lane roads and a green corridor on NH-707.
Once completed, these projects will transform Himachal into a major hub for tourism, healthcare, agriculture, and industry in North India, offering convenience, employment, and sustainability for its people.
