Uproar in Himachal Assembly Over Closure of Industries, Opposition Walks Out
Shimla: Tensions flared in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday during the monsoon session as ruling and opposition members clashed over the issue of closed industries. During the Question Hour, BJP MLAs raised concerns over the growing number of shut-down industries in the state.
In response, the Industries Minister revealed that 115 industries have closed over the past two and a half years, but 55 of them have since been restarted by new investors.
Chief Minister further responded by blaming the previous government’s faulty policies for the current situation. He stated that land was allotted to industries at subsidized rates and utilities like electricity and water were provided for free. He added that an investigation into these matters is underway and that the government is working on a new industrial policy.
As the Chief Minister elaborated on the concessions given by the previous regime, BJP MLAs started raising slogans and eventually staged a walkout from the Assembly.
