Centre Approves Dhalli to Sainj Four-Lane Project; ₹1452 Cr Sanctioned for Jallori Tunnel
Shimla, August 26, 2025: The government at the center has officially approved building a four-lane highway connecting Dhalli, close to Shimla, with Sainj in Rampur.This announcement was made by Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh during the Question Hour in the state assembly on Monday. He stated that the approval of the annual project plan will bring major benefits to the people of Upper Shimla.
The long-awaited Jallori Tunnel project has also received a budget sanction of ₹1452 crore from the Centre. The tunnel is proposed beneath the Jallori Pass, which often remains closed during winters due to heavy snowfall. A joint inspection for tunnel alignment has already been conducted, speeding up the forest clearance (FCA) process. The tunnel will provide year-round, safe, and direct connectivity for residents of Ani, Nirmand, and Banjar areas, who currently face long detours via Shimla or Karsog.
Singh further stated that the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) process for the Dhalli-Sainj four-lane highway will begin shortly. He emphasized the significance of the Luhri-Aut road and announced plans to renovate the old bridge in Luhri as part of the annual development plan.
Responding to MLA Ajay Solanki’s query, the minister said that forest clearance pendency is being addressed through district-level committees headed by deputy commissioners. Pending files in Chandigarh are also being reviewed. He added that funds for mandatory afforestation are being arranged by the government and can also be provisioned through the MLA fund.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, during his recent visit to Bagasarahan, sanctioned ₹2 crore each for roads from Bagi Pul to Bagasarahan and Nirmand. An additional ₹2 crore has been approved for upgrading the local school.
