APMC Shop Row Sparks Protest in Himachal Assembly, BJP Legislators Walk Out
Shimla, August 27, 2025 – The Himachal Pradesh Assembly witnessed major uproar on Wednesday during the monsoon session over alleged irregularities in the allocation of APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) shops. Dissatisfied with the government’s response, BJP legislators staged a walkout led by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur.
BJP MLAs Sudhir Sharma and Randhir Sharma accused the government of bypassing rules while allotting shops in Parala, Shilaru, and Tutu markets, allegedly to benefit its close associates.
In response, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar denied the allegations, calling them "false and baseless." He challenged the opposition to present any evidence they have in the House.
Unhappy with the reply, BJP members raised slogans and walked out of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu unexpectedly left mid-session for a visit to Bihar, further fueling opposition criticism.
