Heated Debate in Himachal Assembly Over Chamba Natural Disaster, Proceedings Suspended for 15 Minutes
On Thursday, during the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, BJP MLA Hansraj raised the issue of the natural disaster in Chamba district through a point of order. He highlighted that road and telecommunication links were cut off in the Churah and Bharmaur regions, leaving stranded residents without ration supplies and increasing their hardships. Opposition MLA Janak Raj urged the government to consider the severity of the situation and immediately suspend the session.
Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur accused the Chief Minister of leaving for Bihar during this critical time instead of overseeing rescue operations in Himachal. The Assembly Speaker appealed to both sides to maintain calm and work towards resolving the issue.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri stated that the government was handling the situation with full seriousness. He dismissed the opposition’s allegations as politically motivated and informed that the Chamba-Pathankot route was reopened late Wednesday night, with around 3,000 people rescued so far.
Following this, the opposition erupted into protest within the house. Both sides engaged in heated exchanges, leading the Speaker to suspend proceedings for 15 minutes.
