Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Promises One Bigha Land for Disaster Victims, Raises Concern Over Rising Cancer Due to Pesticides
Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced in the assembly that disaster-affected people will be given one bigha of land. However, the state government does not have its own land as most land falls under the Forest Act. The government will send a proposal to the Centre regarding land allocation. The opposition walked out during the disaster discussion, while the CM questioned their sensitivity towards the affected.
Additionally, the CM assured quality control over pesticides used on fruits and vegetables. He acknowledged that excessive use of pesticides and urea is a major cause of rising cancer cases. The government is promoting natural farming.
He announced that PET scan equipment will be introduced soon at IGMC Shimla and Tanda Medical College. A state-of-the-art cancer institute with an investment of ₹300 crore is being established in Hamirpur to strengthen oncology care in the region. Advanced medical equipment will be acquired statewide to enhance cancer treatment.
The government will soon fill the long-standing vacancy of the State Drug Controller, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil stated. MLA Satpal Singh Satti expressed concern over drug quality issues due to the vacancy.
