Hamirpur: Fake Documents Used to Claim VIP Labour Benefits, FIR Filed Against Two Women

Hamirpur: Fraud in Labor Welfare Schemes, Govt Employees’ Wives Impersonated as Laborers, FIR Registered
Hamirpur, August 4: A new case of fraud has emerged in the schemes run by the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. In Hamirpur district, wives of some government employees allegedly submitted fake documents to claim benefits by posing as laborers.

Two women have now been booked at Barsar Police Station for illegally availing benefits under the Maternity Assistance Scheme in 2021. They reportedly received ₹25,000 in maternity aid and an additional ₹75,000 to ₹80,000 in daily wage compensation over six months — all based on forged documents.

Earlier, similar cases were reported at Bhoranj Police Station. The departmental inquiry revealed that several ineligible individuals, including people owning multi-storey houses, had falsely registered as laborers to exploit the welfare schemes.

In 2021, over 21,000 people registered as laborers in Hamirpur district alone, while the total registrations across the state crossed 70,000. According to Board Chairman Nardev Kanwar, many influential individuals misused the system using fake documents. More complaints have been filed in Sujanpur and Hamirpur, with additional FIRs expected soon.

Statement:
"Cases have been registered against two women based on the Board's complaint. Proper action will be taken after investigation."
