Antibiotic Drug Used During Monsoon Fails Quality Test, Stock Sealed by Health Department
Banikhet: An antibiotic medicine widely prescribed for viral fever during the monsoon season has failed a government quality test. The drug in question, Amoxicillin Cloxacillin and Lactic Acid Bacillus Capsules, was found to be substandard after a sample from a private chemist in Banikhet was sent for laboratory testing.
The drug, manufactured by a pharmaceutical company based in Haryana, was from batch number CB 24056, with a manufacturing date of July 2024. Upon receiving the test results, the health department immediately sealed the stock of the drug from six chemists across the district.
Doctors had been prescribing this antibiotic to patients suffering from viral fever. After confirming the sample failure, the health authorities launched a district-wide check to identify all chemists selling the same batch and sealed the remaining stock.
The concerned company has been issued a notice demanding a detailed manufacturing quality report. Until the company provides a satisfactory response, it will not be allowed to sell the drug in the market.
Nishant Sareen, Assistant State Drug Controller, said, “The antibiotic sample has failed. The existing stock has been sealed, and an official notice has been served to the manufacturer. Further action will be taken once we receive their response.”
