India Evacuates 110 Citizens from Iran under 'Operation Sindhu'; Students Thank Government for Safe Return
In response to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, the Indian government has launched ‘Operation Sindhu’ to evacuate its citizens stranded in conflict-hit regions of Iran. On Thursday morning, the first batch of over 100 Indian students safely arrived in New Delhi.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, over 4,000 Indian nationals reside in Iran, nearly half of whom are students.The government emphasized that the safety of Indian citizens abroad is a top priority.
Students expressed heartfelt gratitude upon arrival. A returning student expressed, "It feels like a huge relief, and we’re truly grateful. We didn’t expect to return home so soon and safely. The evacuation was smooth and well-organized. I’m thankful to the Indian government.”
"The situation in Iran was very tense, and there was a lot of fear among people. We were amazed by the Indian government's support—they brought us home right from our doorstep, something we never expected."We are deeply grateful."
The students mentioned that buses are being arranged to take them home. One student from Jammu and Kashmir requested support from her state authorities, saying, "After traveling through three countries, we are exhausted. I request our Chief Minister to help us reach home quickly so we can reunite with our parents."
