Indian Soldiers to Master Drone Warfare by 2027: ARTRAC Launches Specialized Training
Shimla: Indian Army soldiers will soon be as skilled with drones as they are with rifles. Drawing lessons from Operation Sindoor, the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) has announced a specialized drone training program to be implemented by 2027. The announcement was made by Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ARTRAC, during a felicitation ceremony held on Thursday.

Lt Gen Sharma stated that ARTRAC has identified 33 critical technologies to be integrated into army training. These include drone warfare, cyber capabilities, battlefield AI, and electronic warfare. The Indian Army has declared 2024–25 as the "Year of Technological Integration," and 14 Centers of Excellence have already been established.

Goal to Fully Integrate Technologies by 2030
The Army aims to incorporate all key modern technologies into training by 2030, backed by an investment of ₹390 crore over the next five years. So far, 18,000 soldiers have been trained in 22 technologies in 2024–25. In 2025–26, an additional 12,000 soldiers are set to be trained in 21 cutting-edge technologies.

Equal Opportunities for Women in Uniform
Lt Gen Sharma highlighted ARTRAC’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for women across all roles. Currently, 1,571 women are serving in the Army, many of them holding significant posts. Gender sensitivity training has also been included in the curriculum.

Collaborating with Think Tanks and Startups
In its push for transformation, ARTRAC is collaborating with think tanks, universities, research institutions, and startups to bring cutting-edge technologies into the Army's fold.
