Monsoon Preparedness Review Meeting Held Under Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi's Chairmanship
Shimla, June 30: A high-level review meeting on monsoon preparedness was held today under the chairmanship of Jagat Singh Negi, Minister for Revenue, Horticulture, Tribal Development, and Public Grievances. Officials from PWD, Jal Shakti Department, Electricity Board, SDRF, Revenue, and other departments participated in the meeting.
It was informed that heavy rainfall is ongoing in Kangra and Mandi districts, where machinery and staff have been fully deployed. Efforts are underway to restore the 234 rain and landslide-affected roads by this evening. All national highways remain operational for traffic.
The Electricity Board reported that 968 transformers have been affected and restoration efforts are in progress. 23 drinking water schemes under the Jal Shakti Department have been impacted and will be restored soon. A flood incident was reported in Sarpara, Rampur, though fortunately, there was no loss of life.
Minister Negi instructed that the Disaster Management Authority should respond immediately in case of any untoward incident. He emphasized strict monitoring of large dams in Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra districts. Any violation of safety norms must be dealt with under the Dam Safety Act and the Disaster Management Act.
Tourists have been advised to consider weather alerts before planning travel and to stay away from rivers and streams. All SDMs have been directed to remain alert.The SDRF has been fully equipped, deployed, and allocated the necessary budget. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant, Director and Special Secretary of Disaster Management D.C. Rana, SDRF SP Arjit Sen Thakur, Additional Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management Nishant Thakur, PWD Chief Engineer Narendra Pal Singh, Jal Shakti Chief Engineer Anju Sharma, and Senior Private Secretary Tulsi Ram Sharma.
