Himachal to Develop Magnet City near Shimla in Jathia Devi
Shimla, June 28, 2025: The Himachal Pradesh government is set to develop the state's first Magnet City near Jathia Devi, close to the capital Shimla. This eco-friendly project will span across 224 hectares, including 21 hectares of government-owned land and 203 hectares to be acquired from nine villages in Shimla Rural and Solan districts.
The planned city will feature solar energy usage, efficient waste management, and robust public transport facilities. The first phase will include construction of 1, 2, and 3 BHK flats, along with villas and eco-resorts developed by HIMUDA (Himachal Housing and Urban Development Authority).
According to HIMUDA Vice-Chairman Yashwant Chajta, this city will help ease the growing population pressure on Shimla. The township project, initially proposed during the tenure of former CM Virbhadra Singh, is being revived after nearly 13 years. Construction work is scheduled to commence by the end of this year.
Designed to attract investments and generate employment, the Magnet City aims to emerge as a modern, sustainable urban center outside the existing metro region.
