HP Assembly Session: Chaos Erupts Over Dearness Allowance Issue, Opposition Walks Out

Uproar in Himachal Assembly over Pending DA, Opposition Stages Walkout

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Assembly witnessed a major uproar on Thursday, the fourth day of the Monsoon Session, over the issue of pending Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees. BJP legislators stormed into the well of the House, raised slogans against the government, and later walked out in protest.

Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, along with other BJP MLAs, raised the issue during the Question Hour. They alleged that 11% DA installment remains unpaid. BJP MLA Vikram Thakur pointed out that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had announced during the Budget Session that the DA would be released in May. However, with August nearing its end, the amount has still not been disbursed.

In response, CM Sukhu assured the House that the DA will be released soon. Dissatisfied with the reply, the opposition began shouting slogans and approached the Speaker’s podium, before staging a walkout.

Speaking to the media outside the Assembly, Jairam Thakur said, “The government keeps giving vague and roundabout answers. The Chief Minister is responding politically instead of addressing a serious employee concern. This delay is unacceptable.”
