Himachal: Urad and Chana Dal to Get Costlier for 1.95 Million Ration Card Holders, Check New Prices

Himachal: Urad and Chana Dal to Get Costlier at Fair Price Shops, Malka Dal Unchanged; 1.95 Million Consumers Affected

In a recent update for ration card holders in Himachal Pradesh, Malka, Urad, and Chana dal will soon be available at government depots (fair price shops), but with revised prices. This move will impact around 1.95 million consumers across the state.

Urad dal prices have gone up by ₹8 to ₹10 per kilogram. Earlier, Urad dal was available at ₹68 per kg for Above Poverty Line (APL) families and ₹58 per kg for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Now, the price has been unified and increased to ₹76/kg for all.

Similarly, the price of Chana dal has risen from ₹60 to ₹72/kg. However, there is some relief for consumers as the price of Malka dal remains unchanged at ₹66/kg.

The supply of these pulses has already been initiated by MCCA (MCC Agency). The hike in prices is attributed to the increase in support prices and a 5% tax on packaging. Still, government officials maintain that the depot prices remain significantly lower than market rates — where Urad dal is currently sold at ₹120/kg, and Malka and Chana dal at around ₹90/kg.

In addition to pulses, 27 lakh liters of mustard oil will soon be supplied across the state, with tenders opening this Friday. Moreover, 9 lakh liters of refined oil is already being supplied through depots at a subsidized rate of ₹125 per liter (910 ml pack).
