Himachal Rains: 1,217 Roads Blocked Due to Landslides, Three Mutilated Bodies Found in Kullu, Manimahesh Pilgrims Airlifted

After Heavy Rainfall, Landslides and Floods Wreak Havoc in Himachal; Manimahesh Pilgrims Airlifted

Following several days of continuous heavy rainfall, the weather cleared up on Friday in Himachal Pradesh, but troubles continue across the state. Landslides and floods have caused 1,217 roads to be blocked, with hundreds of power transformers and water supply schemes disrupted. Three mutilated bodies were recovered in Kullu, and rescue operations are ongoing for three more people trapped under debris.

In Bharmaur, stranded Manimahesh pilgrims were airlifted by two Indian Air Force Chinook helicopters, with approximately 52 to 60 pilgrims evacuated per flight. This marks the first time Chinook helicopters were used during a disaster in the state. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi assured that all pilgrims will be safely evacuated soon.

Multiple districts including Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur have been severely affected, with many roads and electricity supplies disrupted. A section of National Highway near Rampur-Jubbar in Shimla has been closed due to massive rockfalls.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu toured the disaster-hit areas, assessed the relief efforts, and assured financial aid and rehabilitation to affected families. He stated that all possible measures are being taken to compensate for the flood damages.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert until September 11. Meanwhile, damage to the Kalka-Shimla railway track and other areas has affected train operations.
