CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Conducts Aerial Survey of Flood-Hit Kullu-Manali Region, Reviews Relief Work
Kullu/Shimla:
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday flew from Jubbarhatti in Shimla to Bhuntar Airport in Kullu aboard an Indian Army MI-17 helicopter, carrying relief material for flood-affected residents.
Upon arrival, the CM conducted an aerial survey of the Bhuntar and surrounding areas to assess the extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall. He also surveyed the disaster-affected zones between Kullu and Manali via helicopter.
Addressing the media at Bhuntar, the Chief Minister said that with the weather clearing after six days, the state has intensified relief operations. Army helicopters have been deployed for rescue efforts.
CM Sukhu informed that nearly 3,500 pilgrims stranded during the Manimahesh Yatra are being rescued by the army using helicopters. He acknowledged that the state has suffered immense damage due to the monsoon and assured that the government is doing everything possible to help the affected people.
Criticizing the central government, Sukhu stated that the state has not yet received any aid from the Centre. Despite this, the Himachal Pradesh government is reallocating its own resources to support those in need.
Taking a dig at Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, he said BJP leaders are only active on social media and are not visiting affected areas. He also noted that none of the seven BJP MPs from the state have been visible on the ground.
The Chief Minister added that a ₹3,000 crore disaster management plan has been prepared with assistance from the World Bank, and work will begin as soon as it gets approval.
