Jaundice spread in Mandi: ITI trainee suffering from jaundice died in PGI, age was 21 years

The jaundice outbreak in Jogindernagar area of Mandi district has claimed a life. Karn (21), son of Gyan Chand and a student at ITI Jogindernagar, succumbed to the illness during treatment at PGI Chandigarh. Karn had contracted jaundice about a week ago while staying in Jogindernagar. Four other young men residing in rented rooms in the town have also shown symptoms of jaundice.

After seeking initial treatment at a nearby health center, Karn returned to his village, Tulah. When his condition didn’t improve and he lost his appetite, his family took him to a government hospital in Kangra district. As his condition worsened, he was referred to Tanda Medical College and later to PGI Chandigarh three days ago, where he passed away during treatment on Thursday.

Tulah Panchayat head Sunita and former Panchayat head Ranjit reported that they received the news of Karn's death from his family. The last rites were performed on Thursday afternoon. Karn Singh was the only brother to four sisters. His father, Gyan Chand, works as a daily laborer, and Karn was pursuing a plumbing trade at ITI.
