An Agniveer stationed in Tanda, Akhnoor, Jammu, has reportedly died under suspicious circumstances. The deceased, Nikhil Dadwal, succumbed to a gunshot wound. The news of his death has cast a pall of gloom over his home and village. It is still unclear whether the gunshot was accidental or a case of suicide. The army has not released any official information regarding the incident, and the local administration has not been informed.
Enlisted 18 Months Ago
Nikhil, 23, had enlisted as an Agniveer 18 months ago. He was unmarried and, after completing his training, was serving in the Akhnoor sector. The incident occurred around 6:30 PM while he was on duty in the Tanda area of Akhnoor. Other unit members heard the gunshot on Wednesday evening and found Nikhil injured. He was rushed to a nearby military hospital, where he was declared dead.
Shot with His Own Weapon
Ramesh Chand, a former soldier and neighbor of the deceased, stated that Nikhil’s father had received a phone call from the unit, informing him that Nikhil had been injured. They later learned that Nikhil had sustained a severe head injury, leading to his death. It was reported that the shot that killed Nikhil was fired from his own weapon.
No Official Information from the Army
Hamirpur SP Bhagat Singh stated that no official information had been received from the army regarding the incident. Councilor Vakil Singh of Ward No. 11, Municipal Council Hamirpur, confirmed receiving news of Nikhil’s death. The deceased’s body is expected to arrive by late Thursday night, after which the last rites will be conducted with full honors.
