FTII Conducts First Workshop on Short Films, Documentaries, and Content Creation in Himachal Valleys
For the first time, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, is conducting a workshop in Himachal Pradesh, teaching short films, documentaries, and content creation. As part of the training, a documentary film is being made on the Mandi Holi festival.
The Himachal Cultural Research Institute and Rangmandal in Satohal village, Mandi district, has been chosen as the venue for this workshop. Running from February 25 to March 22, the workshop hosts 30 participants from across India in two batches. Renowned writer and director Maya Rao, along with other experts, are guiding trainees in shooting, scriptwriting, editing, and other nuances of filmmaking.
Seema Sharma, Secretary of the institute, said that their organization has been teaching performing arts in Himachal for the past 30 years without any government assistance. Keeping in mind the aspirations of the youth, FTII has now started providing media and filmmaking training through this initiative.
Participants are highly enthusiastic about the workshop. Deepak Pehlajani from Mumbai and Shubham Sharma from Dharamshala said that learning filmmaking in the serene valleys of Himachal, away from the city’s hustle, is a unique and enriching experience.
Currently, 30 participants are enrolled in the two batches, while the next batch will start in April, with registration ongoing. Since gaining admission to FTII is not possible for everyone, such workshops serve as a remarkable initiative to train aspiring filmmakers.
