CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Flags Off 60-Member Team for National Ice Skating Championship
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off a 60-member team from Oak Over, Shimla, on Monday to participate in the National Ice Skating Championship being held in Dehradun from June 25 to 28. The team will compete in various events across seven age categories.
Extending his best wishes to the participants, the Chief Minister also greeted them on the occasion of International Olympic Day. He stated that the state government is actively working to promote sports talent and has launched several initiatives to support athletes.
The Chief Minister announced a substantial hike in the prize money awarded to medal winners at major international events such as the Olympics, Paralympics, and Asian Games. In addition, the state has raised the athletes’ diet money and is providing improved travel facilities.
Now, athletes are entitled to AC 3-tier train fare for journeys up to 200 km and economy-class airfare for longer distances, fully covered by the government. CM Sukhu emphasized that these steps aim to encourage youth participation in sports, helping them steer clear of drug abuse and adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Present on the occasion were Ikashvaku Justa, President of the Himachal Pradesh Ice Skating Association (Shimla District), and Vice President Yogesh Sihiya.
