Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar Says: If Kargil Happens Again, Pakistan Will Be Brought to Its Knees in Minutes

ubedar Major Sanjay Kumar, hero of the Kargil War, asserted, “Should another Kargil happen, Pakistan won’t stand a chance—it’ll be over within minutes.
Param Vir Chakra awardee Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar, who displayed unmatched bravery during the 1999 Kargil War in the treacherous Mushkoh Valley, continues to serve the nation with unwavering dedication. Currently posted at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, he is shaping young cadets into future defenders of India. Set to retire in February 2026, he firmly believes that "a soldier never truly retires."

In an exclusive conversation, he emphasized how the Indian Army has evolved since 1999. “Back then, we had courage, but limited resources. Today, we have both courage and capability. If a Kargil-like situation arises again, Pakistan will be crushed within minutes.”

Memories from the Battlefield:
Sanjay Kumar remembers July 4, 1999, as the day that defined his courage and changed his life forever. At Point 4875, under intense enemy fire, he eliminated three infiltrators and despite being seriously injured, continued the assault using a captured enemy machine gun.

Life After Retirement:
“I’ll retire in name only, not in service,” he declared, stating his commitment to continue working for society as an ex-serviceman.

Message to Youth:
“The youth are the future of this nation. If we prepare them mentally and instill in them discipline, dedication, and patriotism, India will always remain secure,” he said, referring to his role at the NDA.
