Shimla Celebrates India’s T20 World Cup Victory with Fireworks and Late-Night Festivities
Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, witnessed late-night celebrations after India’s impressive victory in the T20 World Cup final. At around 10:43 PM, as India defeated New Zealand to clinch the title, people across the city burst crackers and lit fireworks to celebrate the historic win.
In Lower Bazaar, residents came out onto the streets and celebrated the victory with loud cheers and fireworks. During India’s first innings, cricket fans showed immense excitement, cheering for every boundary and six. Many people also gathered on Mall Road, where a large TV screen was installed, and enjoyed the match late into the night.
Since it was a Sunday holiday, most people watched the match at home on television and mobile phones. As New Zealand chased the massive target of 256 runs and wickets kept falling in the second innings, the excitement among fans kept rising.
The moment India’s victory became certain, the sound of firecrackers echoed across the city. India won the final by 96 runs, and soon after the result, people celebrated enthusiastically late into the night.
Areas such as Sanjauli, New Shimla, Dhalli, Baluganj, and Tutu saw people stepping out onto the streets to celebrate with fireworks. Residents said that by winning their third ICC trophy within two years, India has once again raised its flag on the global stage.
Meanwhile, in Summerhill, especially young people came out onto the streets to celebrate. In Gumma, residents watched the match on a big screen and celebrated India’s victory with music and dancing.
