Emergency services halted due to ambulance workers' strike in Himachal; eldest son dies in car accident
In Himachal Pradesh, health services were badly affected on Friday due to a strike by 108 and 102 ambulance workers. During the strike, which lasted from 8 PM on Thursday to 8 PM on Friday, patients faced severe difficulties in reaching hospitals. In the Aani area, a car accident left a father and his two sons injured, with the eldest son dying on the spot. The seriously injured father and younger son were taken to the hospital by local people in a private vehicle because ambulances were unavailable due to the strike.
At Mahatma Gandhi Khaneri Hospital, 108 and 102 ambulances were seen parked idle due to the strike. Patients from remote areas faced particular difficulties, as they were forced to pay more to reach hospitals in private vehicles. The employees’ union has warned that if their demands are not met, they will call for an indefinite strike.
The car accident happened about 7 kilometers ahead of Aani, near Gugra. A Swift car went out of control and fell into a deep gorge. In the accident, Aditya (15) died, while the father, Vijendra, and the younger son, Naitik (13), were seriously injured. Both injured children have been referred to IGMC Shimla. The deceased and injured children were students of Himalayan Model School, Aani.
