Attempt to Smuggle Drugs to Prisoner in Mandi, Wife Arrested
Mandi: An attempt to deliver drugs to a prisoner in Mandi district jail has come to light. According to police, the prisoner’s wife tried to smuggle narcotics to her husband behind bars.
On Thursday afternoon, during a routine visit, Sunita, wife of Suraj Kumar Sharma from Bagachanogi Post Office, Mandi, arrived at the jail to meet her husband. She attempted to send a white-colored suspicious substance inside the jail hidden in clothes.
Jail staff on duty intercepted the package during a security check and recovered 1.3 grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine. Following a complaint by the Assistant Superintendent of Jail Mandi, the police registered a case and arrested the woman according to legal procedures.
Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar stated that the investigation is underway, keeping all aspects in mind. Police noted that the prisoner is a habitual drug user and has previously posed challenges for law enforcement, even requiring hospitalization due to withdrawal. In this case, the wife got involved to fulfill her husband’s drug demand.
