Major Anti-Drug Operation in Himachal Pradesh: Raids at 145 Locations, Large Seizure of Narcotics
The Himachal Pradesh Police conducted a large-scale anti-drug operation on Sunday as part of the second phase of the Anti-Chitta campaign. Raids were carried out at 145 locations across the state, based on intelligence inputs, with joint teams from the State Intelligence Department, Armed Forces, and district police.
DGP Ashok Tiwari reported that during the operation, 406 grams of cannabis, 19.236 grams of Chitta (heroin), 124 grams of poppy husk, and 4,65,100 milliliters of illicit liquor were seized. Six cases were registered under the NDPS Act and four under the Excise Act. Drug detection kits were used, and the entire process of search, seizure, and arrests was videographed.
The DGP stated that, under the guidance of the state government, the campaign will continue with a more scientific, aggressive, and zero-tolerance approach to make Himachal drug-free. Citizens, especially the youth, are urged to report any drug-related activity immediately to 112 or the nearest police station. Whistleblower identities will remain confidential.
So far, 62 major drug traffickers have been taken into preventive custody under the NDPS Act. Approximately ₹48 crore worth of illegal assets derived from drug trafficking have been frozen. The highest number of arrests and preventive actions occurred in hotspot areas such as Solan, Dehra, Baddi, and Nurpur.
Additionally, anti-drug awareness events including walkathons and rallies were held in Shimla, Dharamshala, and Hamirpur. In Shimla, a three-kilometer walkathon was organized from Ridge Ground to Chauda Ground. In Dharamshala, participants marched from Dadi Mela Ground to Police Ground, and in Hamirpur, a rally went from Senior Secondary School to Dosadka Police Line. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu urged everyone to unite against drugs.
