Himachal Promotes High-Density Apple Farming, Loans Up to ₹8 Lakh for Farmers
In Himachal Pradesh, farmers are being provided major support to promote high-density apple cultivation. Under the new scheme, loans of up to ₹8 lakh per bigha will be made available to enable orchardists to adopt modern techniques and achieve higher and better-quality yields.
High-density farming involves planting a greater number of saplings compared to traditional orchards and adopting scientific management practices, leading to improved productivity in a shorter time. Considering the high initial investment, farmers will also receive a three-year moratorium period on loan repayment.
Three-Year Moratorium on Loan Repayment
Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi stated that loans of up to ₹8 lakh per bigha are being provided through the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Bank. During the three-year moratorium period, farmers will not be required to repay the loan.
He added that the Horticulture Department is working to supply quality saplings for high-density plantations. Talks are underway with several companies, and in the coming time, farmers will be provided quality planting material at subsidized rates.
