On Tuesday, Chief Minister Sukvinder Singh Sukhu laid the foundation stones and inaugurated six major development projects worth ₹100 crore in the Dehra Assembly constituency of Kangra district. These projects aim to strengthen the region’s infrastructure and promote tourism.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the construction of an administrative hospital building, diagnostic centre, centralized kitchen, and quarantine facility at the proposed Durgesh Aranya Wildlife Park in Bankhandi, Haripur tehsil, a project has been initiated at an estimated cost of ₹47.62 crore." In addition, he laid the foundation stones for a lift drinking water scheme costing ₹16.25 crore, road upgradation from Haripur to Sakri Gahra at ₹12.87 crore, road construction from Thathar Tripal to Mehwa Panchayat at ₹6.64 crore, and a road project from Thathar Tripal to Mehwa Panchayat costing ₹6.64 crore, and a road project from Guler to Nandpur Bariyal Ladret with an estimated cost of ₹10.29 crore."
Providing more details, the Chief Minister stated that an international-level Durgesh Aranya Wildlife Park is being developed in Bankhandi at a total cost of ₹619 crore, with the first phase involving an expenditure of ₹150 crore. As part of this phase, 43 enclosures, a boundary wall 90% complete, and eight check dams have been constructed. He directed officials to build more check dams to harvest rainwater.
The Chief Minister added that the park will serve as a conservation hub for 78 species of wildlife, including Asiatic lions, hog deer, monitor lizards, crocodiles, gharials, and various bird species. A wetland aviary is also being developed to house native bird species.
Expressing his confidence, he said that this ambitious project will not only enhance tourism but also generate employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth, thereby boosting the regional economy. The park, owing to its unique natural beauty and eco-friendly infrastructure, will help establish Kangra district as the tourism capital of the state.
The Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing construction work on-site and instructed that all works be completed on time with ensured quality. change this news
