The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bilaspur is almost ready to start kidney transplants. A team of specialists from AIIMS Delhi visited Bilaspur for inspection. The central government had instructed AIIMS Bilaspur management to initiate the kidney transplant process. Following this, the management requested an inspection from AIIMS Delhi. After the inspection, the team found all standards for starting kidney transplants to be satisfactory. However, the team has not yet provided their written report, which the Bilaspur AIIMS management is awaiting.
To initiate kidney transplants at AIIMS Bilaspur, the team of specialists and nursing officers from Bilaspur has been undergoing a one and a half month training program at AIIMS Delhi. In addition, other formalities are being completed. Once the written report from the AIIMS Delhi team is received, Bilaspur will start the facility following their suggestions. It is worth mentioning that the positions of senior and junior residents in the nephrology department have already been filled. All kidney-related diseases are being treated.
Currently, there are five dialysis machines operational here. The nephrology services also include facilities for kidney biopsy and tunneled hemodialysis catheter. The radiotherapy block has also been started, providing high-level radiotherapy facilities to cancer patients in the state. The state government team has also inspected AIIMS Bilaspur for starting kidney transplants and has approved.
AIIMS will also launch a donor program for kidney transplants. Under this program, patients will be identified in a special OPD for the transplant. Both the patient and the donor will undergo testing, and only after all tests are satisfactorily completed will the transplant proceed.
AIIMS Bilaspur is preparing to start kidney transplants, with most major formalities nearly completed. They are awaiting the written report from the AIIMS Delhi team. Under the guidance of the Union Health Minister, all remaining formalities are being completed. Soon, the people of the state will have access to kidney transplant facilities at AIIMS Bilaspur. - AIIMS Management, Bilaspur
