Dharamshala Police Launch New Initiative: Will Manage Traffic Directly if Fines Don’t Work

Dharamshala Traffic Violators to Serve as Road Volunteers Under New Initiative

In the tourist town of Dharamshala, traffic violators will now face more than just fines—they will also dedicate their time and effort as a lesson. DIG Soumya Sambashivan of North Dharamshala has launched a new initiative where violators will be deployed as traffic volunteers on the roads.

The police administration has set two shifts: 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Violators will wear reflective jackets while managing traffic at intersections. Officials believe that facing traffic congestion and disorder firsthand will instill a sense of discipline and responsibility in offenders.

During the tourist season, traffic pressure in Dharamshala rises significantly. Illegal parking and congestion inconvenience both locals and tourists and increase fuel consumption, causing economic losses. The new system aims to ensure better compliance, motivated not only by fines but also by the obligation to serve on the streets.

Even government employees must participate. Violators will have to take leave from work to serve as traffic volunteers. Often, luxury vehicles parked illegally cause major jams. This initiative provides vehicle owners with an opportunity to fulfill their social responsibility while promoting a “accident-free” campaign.
