AIIMS Bilaspur: Path Cleared for Construction of Trauma Center, Trauma ICU, and Emergency Block, Gets In-Principle Approval
Bilaspur: The path for constructing a Trauma Center, Trauma ICU, and Emergency Block at AIIMS Bilaspur has been cleared, receiving in-principle approval from the Finance Committee. The 300-bed center, estimated to cost ₹350 crore, will provide advanced treatment for critically injured patients. Victims of road accidents and burn injuries will have access to state-of-the-art care within the state.
The trauma center had been in the pipeline for the past two years. Health Minister JP Nadda had reviewed the project during his visit to AIIMS Bilaspur in 2025. Following in-principle approval, the next steps include final financial sanction and budget allocation. Once funds are released, the tendering process for construction will begin.
The proposed trauma block will be equipped with modern medical devices and advanced facilities, including a Trauma ICU, emergency ward, burn unit, and other specialized treatment services. Currently, AIIMS Bilaspur’s emergency OPD sees over 100 patients daily, while existing facilities can accommodate only about 30 patients.
Around 30 patients daily are referred from Hamirpur and Mandi medical colleges to AIIMS Bilaspur. The absence of a burn unit has made timely treatment of severe burn patients challenging. The project also plans to include a burn unit and a helipad, enabling critically injured patients from remote areas to be airlifted quickly, strengthening emergency medical services in the state.
