Shimla: To monitor water quality, 29 samples have been collected from rivers and streams. It is proposed that three real-time water quality monitoring stations be established in Ashwini, Pabbar, and Giri Khads. Groundwater samples collected from Tutu, Byolia, Sainj, and Rohru in the district have all been found to be within safe limits. This information was shared by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap during a meeting on the district's environmental plan on Friday.
He emphasized that all urban local bodies in Shimla district should develop standards for cleanliness in their respective areas. He also stressed the need for officials from these urban local bodies to be personally involved in this effort. Several issues have been raised regarding the disposal of single-use plastics, which need to be addressed.
Only clean plastic should be purchased by weight, and vendors should be compensated accordingly.
The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the need to empower other officials to take action against noise pollution. He directed the launch of a campaign to control the use of pressure horns. The meeting, conducted by Executive Engineer Lalit Thakur, revealed that there are 11 urban local bodies in the district, and waste collection from households is being carried out across all these areas. Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Verma, along with representatives from urban local bodies and officials from various departments, were present at the meeting
