Now, doctors' records will also be digital along with patients' records; JP Nadda launches the NMR portal.

Doctors' records will now be digital, along with patients' records. On Friday, Union Health Minister JP Nadda launched the National Medical Registry (NMR) portal. Through this portal by the National Medical Commission (NMC), every allopathic doctor will be required to create an account linked to their Aadhaar card, which will include information such as their mobile number and degree details. Doctors will receive a unique ID that will serve as their lifelong identifier.

The Union Health Ministry stated that the portal has been launched to create a comprehensive and dynamic database of registered doctors. This database is linked to the doctors' Aadhaar IDs to ensure authenticity. The registration process for all medical colleges is straightforward, and state-run medical colleges are also interconnected through this portal. While some data will be publicly accessible, other information will only be visible to the NMC, State Medical Councils (SMCs), the National Board of Examinations (NBE), and the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB).

According to the ministry, once a doctor submits all their information, it will be sent to the relevant State Medical Council for verification. Following this, the application will be reviewed by the concerned college before being forwarded to the NMC for final approval. Only after this multi-step verification process will the NMR ID be issued to the doctor. Additionally, during this process, doctors can opt to join the Healthcare Provider Registry, which will allow them to connect with the broader digital healthcare ecosystem.

This initiative offers the significant benefit of providing instant access to data on the number of doctors in any given district across the country with just a click.

**Re-registration Required**
All MBBS doctors already registered with the Indian Medical Register (IMR) will need to re-register on the NMR portal. To begin the registration process, doctors will need a digital copy of their degree (MBBS) certificate and their State Medical Council registration certificate. An Aadhaar number will also be required to initiate the process. Doctors can begin the registration by clicking on this link: https://nmr-nmc.abdm.gov.in/nmr/v3/.
