On the last day of withdrawal of nominations for the first phase of the assembly elections on Friday, 25 candidates withdrew their names. Earlier, 36 nominations had already been rejected. Now, 219 candidates remain in the fray for the first phase. Out of the 25 candidates who withdrew, 5 are from the Kashmir region, while the rest are from the Jammu region, with most of them being independent or DPAP candidates.
From the Kashmir region, the independent candidates who withdrew are Rameez Ahmad Dar from Devsar, Sheikh Muzaffar Ahmad from Anantnag West, Mohammad Ayub Band from Tral, Mohammad Hussain Padar from Dooru, and Shahid Hussain Bhat from Dooru.
In the Jammu region, the candidates who withdrew include DPAP's Mohammad Aslam Goni from Bhaderwah, independent candidate Anil Kumar from Bhaderwah, DPAP's Fatima Begum from Inderwal, independent candidate Bhuri Singh from Bhaderwah, Bahadur Singh of the National Panthers Party (India) from Ramban, independent candidate Farooq Ahmad Keen from Inderwal, independent candidate Irshad Ahmad from Inderwal, independent candidate Gulzar Ahmad from Banihal, independent candidate Chankar Singh from Ramban, independent candidate Sajjad Ahmad from Kishtwar, DPAP's Asif Ahmad Khande from Banihal, independent candidate Mohammad Aslam Dev from Kishtwar, DPAP's Girdhari Lal Bhau from Ramban, independent candidate Syed Asim Hashmi from Doda West, independent candidate Suresh Kumar from Ramban, BSP's Arshad Mutahir from Padar-Nagseni, independent candidate Sanjay Kumar from Kishtwar, independent candidate Gurukesh Gupta from Doda, DPAP's Urfi Majeed Wani from Doda, and independent candidate Virender Kumar Rajdhan from Bhaderwah.
It is noteworthy that a total of 280 candidates had filed nominations for the first phase of the assembly elections.
